The ‘why’ of our decisions
The WHY of our Decisions!!!
In every step of our life, we all take decisions… Don’t we? Depending on the consequence, the decisions are meant to be good or bad for us. Getting a job, buying a new car, getting into a relationship, breaking – up with someone, going for a vacation, etc… all are decisions we all ponder upon.
One needs to accept that all the decisions we take, comes with a certain outcome. We can’t get away with it no matter what. However, in due course of time and experience (of failure), I realized that to make a decision, we also need to know ‘why’ we want to make a certain decision.
“Why I want to achieve something that I want to achieve! Why do I want to become this and what will I feel if I don’t!” is surely something I churn intensely before going forward with any decisions. I have learned it the hard way that, to achieve something I need to understand why I need to achieve, as it gives me a bigger picture of the decision I am going to take. Figuring out the ‘why’ imparts clarity in our decision as to what it is going to bring out in you. This is what really helps you ahead:
1. It brings an emotional value and purpose in your decision: When you know why you want to do something, it guides us further. Our decision becomes more important to us than before. Moreover, we don’t keep wondering if the decision was good or bad.
2. It makes you consistent: As I said earlier, no decision is going to be hunky-dory. It comes with its ups and downs whether it’s personal or a professional one. When we know the ‘why’, it compels us to be consistent towards it.
3. The focus automatically becomes the solution: Believe me, there is a going to be a time when you will feel, “Let’s leave it, now nothing can happen.”. That time, it’s only the ‘why’ which helps us. When you want to end a relationship, remember why you loved this person in the first place. When you have troubles in a job, remember to stand up for yourself and let the ‘why’ happen. All this is from my experience.
If there is no clarity in your decision, there might be a very low chance of being in a place where you actually want to be. It’s also because your sub-conscious mind won’t allow you to go further.
My thoughts on this wouldn’t conclude if I don’t speak about myself and why I took certain decisions for myself: Today I am a Waldorf teacher because I knew that by being a part of that environment, I would learn a lot of life skills which I knew was a miss and moreover I would spend a lot of time with kids which I always wanted. I became a blogger because I felt I could learn how to connect with people who could resonate with me. Secondly, I can express & release my emotions in the most effective manner. Were these decisions easy? No. But they strive me towards surpassing the hurdles because I know that the ‘why’ which I want is of sole importance to me.
Let me know what you feel about my thoughts and don’t forget to read my last blog on why we don’t forget certain memories : https://souloutpourings.com/people-never-forget/

This is such a good post! And I agree with all of your points. The focus automatically becomes the solution is a very good point and I honestly never thought of it that way before.

This was so great to read!
Iâve actually recently been thinking about the whys to my goals and instead just setting myself things Iâve been asking why I want to achieve them and itâs really helped me to see whatâs important and what isnât.

Why…yes, sometimes you need to know the why before you can really take action. I hadnât really considered that, but Iâm glad you pointed it out.

Yes! The “why” is so important. I like to think of it as intention. You’re right: Our intentions will shape our outcomes. Many people can sense your intentions intuitively, so it’s important to be clear on your “why.” Thanks for this super post, Shraddha!
